Summarize Anything

Use this when you have a wall of text and need the key points fast.

The prompt

Summarize the following [article/document/notes] in 5 bullet points.
Focus on the most important takeaways for someone who wants to understand
the main ideas without reading the full text.

How to adapt it

  • Change “5 bullet points” to “3 sentences” or “a one-paragraph overview” depending on what you need
  • Add “for a [non-technical / executive / student] audience” to tune the language level
  • Add “highlight any action items or decisions” if it’s meeting notes

Why it works

The explicit format instruction (“5 bullet points”) prevents rambling. Specifying who will read it anchors the language level. The rest is just giving the AI the right raw material.

Variations

For meeting notes:

Summarize these meeting notes in 3 sections: Key Decisions, Action Items
(with owners if mentioned), and Open Questions. Keep each section to
bullet points, 1-2 lines each.

For a long article:

I'm going to paste an article. Give me: (1) the main argument in one sentence,
(2) the 3 strongest supporting points, (3) any significant counterarguments
or caveats the author acknowledges.
